After a few years away from the spotlight, 2021 has seen a stream of top quality releases from one of the South West’s most respected labels of the past decade.
One Lion Records is back and is bringing with them a whole new host of rappers, producers and artists that only compliment an already monumental catalogue of head-nodding bangers.
Introducing Rapha Ghetti & Freddy Pimms, with a vintage sound that is synonymous with UK hiphop, with the likes of The Mouse Outfit and Granville Sessions forging a route for the full band sound that Freddy has absolutely nailed with this one.
This 2-track EP is everything that, I personally, look for in hiphop: beautiful composition on the instrumentals, real lyrics that have a meaning and message to put across, brought together with impeccable production.
Kicking off the release is “No Body Knows”, a raw social commentary on growing up in the UK, with nothing to do except smoke weed, eventually leading to isolation, paranoia and other mental health issues. A stark reality for many of us.

Following on from that masterpiece, is the gritty “Method”. I would say it’s definitely clear from this one that there really is a method to the madness. The cadence and flow from Rapha Ghetti is standout on this one, shelling out some home truths for society whilst showcasing his musical intuition.

We have to give a huge shout out to Harry Haynes, for recording the extra guitar and bass riffs, with which Freddy Pimms has created a fully fledged banger of an EP. From top to bottom, a real unique sound and a clear message that this society has a lot of work to do to ensure that the next generation don’t have all these issues to deal with.
Maybe one day we’ll get there, this kind of music and message are going to be key to that transition.
